Research in Action
One of PLEDJ’s founding ambitions is to bring academia closer to the community - to utilise scholarship for communities and reciporically have communities better inform research and academic processes. Our primary approach to research aims to provide resources at individual, community and policy levels. We create and share research about the making and mobilization of local knowledges and practices of social justice and conflict. We use experimental methods framed by participatory action research to collaborate with local keepers as experts, incorporate their traditions as instrumental to social transformation, and promote indigenous pedagogies as essential to unsettling inequalities. Our research also collaborates with community-based organisations and student training. The knowledge outputs of our research are diverse and focus on multimedia, open access products such as training handbooks that amplify knowledge sharing between people.
Methods
Ethnography
By providing contextualized data documenting the voices of the marginalized, ethnography informs PLEDJ's policy and practice and promotion of social justice
Participatory Action Research
A collaborative research approach where those affected by an issue actively participate in the research process, from design to action, to address social justice and conflict
Quantitative Surveys
A structured method of collecting numerical data from a sample of individuals to describe, explain, and provide feedback with statistical analysis
Arts-based Research
Uses creative practices as a means of inquiry and knowledge production, not just to create art, but to explore research questions, gather data, and communicate findings.
Reports
One of the main PLEDJ's knowledge outputs are our impact and annual reports describing and documenting our initiatives and efforts.
